7 Days of Tribal Experiences in Ethiopia's Omo River Valley

Experience another way of life as you’re welcomed by some of the 88 cultural communities of the Omo Valley. Famed for its cultural traditions and tribal diversity, this remote corner of Ethiopia has been a cultural crossroads for millennia.

Day 1

Arba Minch

Pick up from the hotel or airport right at your arrival in Arba minch. after having some rest or coffee breaks depending on your arrival time and drive directly to Arbaminch where we will make a right turn right before the city of Arbaminch and head to the Dorze tribe of Chencha and visit the village life of these people; famous for traditional cloth making by weaving cotton using locally made instrument.: We will visit their late afternoon village life. Overnight Paradise lodge

Day 2

Arba Minch to Turmi

In the morning we drive directly to Jinka where we will make a stop in Konso and visit the Daily way of life of the hard working communities of the konso tribes well known for their terracing culture that dates back to some 500 years, to cultivate crops especially Maize and Sorghum in a challenging topography which has been recognised by UNESCO as a heritage. After visiting this village for as long as you want and head to Jinka where we will visit the village life of the Ari tribe who live on the plateau lands surrounding Jinka town( The administrative town of the 16 different Tribal communities of the Omo valley area). Overnight in NASA LODGE

Day 3

Excursion To Mago National Park

In the morning we head to the unique tribe of Mursi (The women are famous for putting clay made circular lip and ear plates which symbolizes beauty in honor) crossing through Mago National Park in order to reach their village. We will visit the uninterrupted authentic daily life activities the entire afternoon where this will give an excellent time of interaction which makes it a once in a lifetime time experience. Overnight camping with the tribes where we will have an excellent cook with us and a well-organized team with complete and clean camping gear enough for all.

Day 4

Mursi to Turmi Hammer

In the morning after breakfast we drive back to Jinka and then continue driving directly to Turmi where we will have several village stops on our way down to meet the tribes we come across as such: Banna and Hammer tribes village life daily activity with no interruptions till late afternoon and overnight in Buska Lodge

Day 5

Mursi to Turmi Hammer

. In the morning we drive further down to Omorate which is a border town with Northwest Kenya to visit the Dassanech tribe deep in their remote villages leaving the commonly visited ones by going down as far as the Northern tip of Lake Turkana and experiencing a wonderful time you will never forget. After lunch we drive to Karo Tribe’s village of Korcho located near by a panoramic omo river view after driving some 60 Kms from Turmi and visit these amazing tribes who are considered to be the least numbered in terms of population size among the Omo Valley tribes. After visiting this Tribe’s village for as much time we need and head to turmi for the night – Buska Lodge

Day 6

Turmi To Arbora

Morning after breakfast drive to Arbora. The Arbore tribe is a small tribe that lives in the southwest region of the Omo Valley. They have ancestral and cultural links to the Konso people and perform many ritual dances while singing. The Tsemay people are their neighboring tribe. after having enough time head to Arba minch for overnight at Paradis lodge

Day 7

Jinka to Addis Ababa Flight

Flying back Addis Ababa, In Addis Ababa we will have 3hrs city tours, then we will have dinners At Ethiopian traditional restaurant At yod Abyssinia enjoying a Buffet Dinner with traditional dancing, and followed by Drop you off at Airport.

Mago National Park, Ethiopia - August 1, 2011: A Mursi woman poses with a very large lip plate in the Omo valley of Ethiopia. Mursi woman wear the lip plates as they are said to be seen as a sign of strength. Mursi men see the lip plates as a sign that the woman can endure great pain. When the lip plates are removed though there is nothing but a long wrinkled lip left in place that constantly dribbles saliva.
